Once again this year the “Copa de Andalucía” is being played at both Atalaya Golf & Country Club and at El Real Club de Golf Guadalmina. The tournament is slated for the 9th through the 12th of January. This elite, amateur tournament attracts prominent and aspiring men and lady competitors from both the national and international golf scene.

Atalaya’s Old Course is the venue for the 2019 men’s competition, and the ladies will be playing on Guadalmina’s North Course.

Each year the level of competition that the tournament attracts rises to a new height of excellence. Players like Carlos Pigem, Pedro Erice, Manuel Couto, Juan Francisco Sarasti, Víctor Pastor, Jordi Flotats, Adriá Arnaus, Pep Anglés, and Marcus Svensson bring much excitement to the men’s competition. Malága’s talented Ángel Hidalgo, who recently turned professional, won the Copa’s men’s championship title last year, being the the last win of his amateur career.

The Copa de Andalucia is a 72-hole competition played under the Stroke Play format over a consecutive four-day period. Eighteen holes are played each day. On day four the field is reduced to the 50 ladies and the 50 men who have placed highest on their respective leaderboards. All competitors are eligible to earn points in the Sub18 National Ranking and in the Amateur World Ranking.

During the last few days Salvador Luna, the Royal Spanish Golf Federation coach and Director of the Blume National School, has been seen spending time at Atalaya, along with his team of 10 young players. In 2014 the PGA of Europe awarded Luna with the John Jacobs Award for Teaching & Coaching in recognition of his exceptional achievements as a coach.

Great golf will be played at Atalaya during the next four days. If you would like a real treat, please come out and enjoy watching these talented, young golfers show off their very best.
