Under blue skies and with temperatures in the low twenties, Captains’ Day was celebrated at Atalaya Golf & Country Club on Saturday, April 16. Some sixty golfers competed in an eighteen hole individual Stableford tournament.

Captains Salim Manji and Lynne Hood greeted participants with a sleeve of balls before tee off on the first hole and again at the turn after nine holes of play with a glass of cava and well wishes for a most enjoyable day.

After a break for an afternoon rest and a change of clothes, members and their guests returned to the clubhouse for an appetising dinner prepared and presented by Atalaya food and beverage manager Javier Llagostera and his most capable staff.

A highlight of the evening was member Gunilla Parmlid’s humourous impersonation of Ladies’ Captain Lynne Hood, after which Lynne and Men’s Captain Salim Manji presented prizes to the day’s golf tournament winners, as well as to the winners of the Winter Match Play tournament that has transpired since the fall of 2015.

On behalf of the membership, President Ludwig Koller presented to outgoing Men’s Captain Salim Manji an electric golf trolley as a token of the members’ appreciation to Salim for his more than ten years of dedicated service as a member of the committee, acting in various capacities.

Dancing to the sounds of popular Costa del Sol singer-songwriter Zoë Louise followed and proved to be a perfect conclusion to a most successful event.
