Atalaya Golf & Country Club Golf and fellow golf clubs throughout Andalucía are reaching out to their respective municipalities to help mitigate possible health risks that are evolving from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Working in tandem with the municipality of Benahavis, Atalaya’s “clean and disinfect” initiative went in to effect on Monday morning, the 23rd of March. The streets of La Alquería Villas, Atalaya Hills and parts of the El Paraiso area were sanitised.

Simply stated, Atalaya is providing one of its fumigators and an operator and Marbella’s John Deere distributor Agronimer is providing a second fumigator and operator to clean and disinfect the streets of the various urbanisations in the vicinity of our two golf courses. Sterilising products and diesel for the fumigators are being provided by the Benahavis city counsel.

Through the efforts of Atalaya’s Director General Andrés Sánchez, Benahavís is the first Andalusian municipality to launch this innovative campaign, although many others are following close behind.

The Royal Andalusian Golf Federation is encouraging all golf clubs in Andalucía to become involved in this important public service outreach. The concept is for golf facilities to offer their machinery and personnel to clean and disinfect the streets of urbanisations located near their clubs. To this end the federation has offered its services to speak directly with various city councils and to do anything in its power to help launch this important initiative.

With all golf courses closed during the lockdown, the golf sector is committed to helping in any and every way possible to eradicate this deadly virus. How great that Atalaya Golf & Country Club is the first to take up the torch and demonstrate its leadership in and commitment to the community.
