Designed by Paul Krings and inaugurated in 1990, the New Course at Atalaya Golf & Country Club offers narrower fairways, elevation changes and sloping greens, which means that every shot counts—making it a favourite for players who enjoy a more strategic challenge.

Set in the hills above the Costa del Sol, this course rewards accuracy, creativity and smart decision-making.

But what truly sets the New Course apart is something many golfers are not yet familiar with: its Bermuda grass greens.

Unlike the cool-season grasses commonly found across Europe, Bermuda is a warm-season variety designed for efficiency and sustainability. It requires less water, tolerates heat and performs exceptionally well in southern climates—making it an increasingly important choice for the future of golf.

Visitors may notice that during the cooler months, the greens take on a slightly brown tone. This is completely natural. Bermuda grass enters a dormant phase in winter, while maintaining excellent playing conditions. In fact, its firmer surface creates a faster, more consistent roll and reduces pitch marks.

From late spring through autumn, the course transforms again, with vibrant green surfaces and optimal growth.

The New Course is not just a round of golf—it’s a different way to experience the game. One that combines design, performance and sustainability in a unique setting overlooking the Mediterranean and Gibraltar.
