The recent partnership between Atalaya Golf & Country Club and PG Experience & Events creating southern Spain’s pre-eminent, golf practice facility is already proving a great success. Named PG Golf & Sports Academy at Atalaya, the new facility is quickly becoming the “go to” venue for winter training in the south of Spain

The academy’s almost instant success doesn’t come out of thin air; it is built on solid history. For over 50 years Atalaya Golf has been known as one of Costa del Sol’s leading golf clubs, with two championship courses and an expansive practice facility. Since 2016 PG Experience & Events (http://pgexperienceproam.com/) has gained solid credentials for offering the best in worldwide golf travel.

This is why national teams from around Europe, as well as many aspiring amateurs and professionals, are travelling to Costa del Sol to train at the PG Academy and play at Atalaya. What could be a better way for these talented, young golfers to escape the inclement and frigid long, winter months in their homelands and at the same time carry on with their strenuous, off-season training programs?

On any given day polished and liquid swings from all over Europe are tweaked and perfected at the new PG practice facility. Right now members of the Slovak National Golf Team are included in this group. Temporarily residing only a kilometre or so away from the academy, team members are taking advantage of the Costa’s warm, winter climate to enhance and fine tune their golf skills.

Amateurs hoping to better their positions in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (http://wagr.com) and aspiring, young professionals also regularly practice at the academy and play the Old Course.

We recently caught up with amateur Filip Raza of the Czech Republic. He is here training for the next five or six weeks. Although travelling on his own, he is staying with members of the Slovak team to help lower expenses.

Filip recently obtained a scholarship to attend Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida. A serious winter training program is essential for him to be at the top of his game when he arrives in Florida for school later this year in August. Mentioning that he is only 18, he reflected that although it is expensive to be here, a strong training program is very important. His seriousness is evident in the photos showing his elaborate setup for his putting drills.

According to the academy’s director, European Tour Professional Peter Gustafsson, other national teams and professionals will be training at the academy later this winter and in the spring. “This new project is an amazing opportunity to offer the very best in golfing tuition and practice in southern Spain. Working in partnership with Atalaya, I am looking forward to sharing my experience with Atalaya members and golfers from all over Europe.”

So here we are only a couple of months into this new partnership between one of southern Spain’s top golf venues and one of Spain’s top golf academies. Already a magnet is being created for top pros and amateurs to travel to our area to train and play.

But please remember – the PG Golf & Sports Academy at Atalaya is much more than a training ground for top pros and amateurs. It is our practice home for the Atalaya family – all members and guests – whether high or low handicappers, whether young or old and whether in need of lessons or just self training. The academy is here to help everyone!
