Atalaya Golf & Country Club has recently completed the installation of new 15-meter-high protective nets at the practice range, an important safety measure aimed at preventing practice balls from entering the Old Course, specifically around hole 4, where confusion and potential danger for players had become a growing concern.
In recent months, there had been repeated instances of range balls landing on the fairway of hole 4, leading to player confusion and, in some cases, the inability to locate their own ball. This not only disrupted the flow of play but also raised safety concerns due to the unpredictable arrival of stray practice balls.
To address this, the club has installed six extendable posts, each supporting the new 15-meter netting.
These posts are designed with the future in mind: should it ever become necessary, the netting can be extended an additional 5 meters, reaching a total height of 20 meters. However, early observation confirms that balls are no longer flying over the current 15-meter barrier, so further extension is not anticipated at this stage.
This safety improvement is part of the club’s ongoing commitment to providing an exceptional and secure golfing experience for all players. The investment has been fully financed by Atalaya Golf & Country Club.
In the coming days, a few dry or dead trees near the nets will also be removed, which will further enhance the visibility and aesthetics of the area, creating a more open and visually pleasant environment.
This project reflects Atalaya Golf’s proactive approach to course management and continuous improvement, ensuring that the club remains one of the premier golfing destinations on the Costa del Sol.
