Amidst a highly competitive field of Andalusian players, Valentina established her position at the top of the leaderboard in Sunday’s final round. Posting a score of 71, with a birdie on the 18th, Valentina was crowned women’s category Sub 18 Champion.

Only one shot behind and placing second for the ladies in the Sub 18 challenge and winning the Sub 16 challenge was Ana Sarrias, of La Cañada.

In the Men’s Sub 18 Category Rocco-Paolo Repetto, from the Miguel Ángel Jiménez Golf Academy, in Malaga, placed First. In the Sub 16 Category Álvaro Revuelta, of the Real Sociedad Española Hípica of Madrid, was named champion.

This year’s tournament proved to be an exciting weekend of very challenging golf, and Atalaya tips its hat to all who participated. Special congratulations are extended to Valentina from her Atalaya family as she continues her most successful 2019 golfing journey!

Valentina, who is proudly sponsored by Atalaya Golf & Country Club, carded four impressive rounds of 69, 73, 67 and 77 for a total score of 286 (-2) to secure her position at the top of the leaderboard. Valentina finished four shots ahead of Second Place winner Ana Amalia Pina of the Real Club Sevilla Golf.

For the men Alvaro Revuelta of Madrid placed first with a final score of 280 (-8). Three shots behind and tied for Second were Álvaro Mueller-Baumgart of Malaga and Pablo Rodríguez-Tabernero of the Real Club Sevilla Golf.

During the award giving ceremony, Valentina and Alvaro were presented with the coveted silver schooner trophies which are awarded each year to the tournament’s two champions.

The Norberto Goizueta Memorial serves as a tribute to its namesake and founder of the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina. Inaugurated in 1959 on Guadalmina’s South Course, the tournament has grown to become one of the most important events on the annual Andalusian amateur golf calendar.

The competition is a “Counting Event” in the World Amateur Golf Ranking system, (WAGR). The WAGR ranks the top amateur golfers in the world based on each player’s average performance over a 52-week rolling cycle.

Valentina finished at the top of the podium with rounds of 70 and 71, respectively, for a total score of 141 shots. This year’s event marks the 37th anniversary of this highly respected tournament which attracts players from all areas of Andalucia, as well as many golfers from Portugal.

Second place was captured by Sara Gouveia, a young, promising golfer from Portugal. Sara finished nine strokes behind Valentina with 150 shots.

Valentina finished the two-day, 36-hole tournament with an impressive 140 strokes, 4 under par. She dominated both days of the competition and was the only competitor to post an under par winning score on the leaderboard.

Beatriz Barrios, with 149 strokes (+5), walked away with Second Place honours in the Ladies’ Division. Beatriz is sponsored by the Real Club Sevilla Golf.

Felipe Fernández of Seville placed first in the Men’s Division. He played rounds of 73 and 72, respectively, for a total of 145 strokes (+1). The Men’s Division Second Place winner, with a total of 146 strokes, was Francisco Bolaños. Francisco is federated by the Real Club Sevilla Golf and was proclaimed as the tournament’s runner-up.

Valentina, who is sponsored by Atalaya Golf & Country Club, finished the competition with 155 strokes, only three shots behind the Ladies’ Division winner Mercedes Vega from La Cañada. Third Place went to Julia López of Benahavís Golf. Julia finished with a score of 160.

With a total of 149 strokes (+7), Félix Alberto Sánchez, from La Cañada, took First Place in the Men’s Division. Félix finished the tournament with a commanding five-stroke lead over Sebastian Desoisa, from Alcaidesa Links. Sebastian placed Second with a 36-hole total of 154 strokes. Alex Field, from the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, also finished with 154 shots but was awarded Third Place on the basis of his higher handicap.

The Barbésula Trophy is sanctioned by the Real Federación Andaluza de Golf. Tournament competitors have the opportunity to accumulate points in the Federación’s rankings.

The Junior Honda Classic provides a competitive golf experience of the highest nature to aspiring young golfers. It also greatly assists these golfers in fine-tuning their developmental skills.

The goals of the tournament are to celebrate junior golf and perpetuate the “growth of the game initiatives”. According to the Honda Classic website, the tournament welcomes “… young people of all ages and skill levels to play and have fun.”

Golfers from more than 16 nations and 20 American states participated in this year’s competition.

Although Valentina’s scores were not enough for her to win the New Course challenge, her results remain most commendable.

The esteemed and talented young golfer is right now in Florida participating in four tournaments that allow players to earn points for the WAGR (World Amateur Golf Ranking). Valentina’s goal is to score necessary points to heighten her placement in this ranking.

For this reason Valentina was unable to play the second leg of this winter’s Gecko Tour stop at Atalaya. This tournament was held on the Old Course on Thursday and Friday, the 6th and 7th of December.

The two-day tournament’s format was Scratch stroke play.

The daughter of the Atalaya Golf member Giovanni Albertazzi, Valentina carded a 71 on Day One and a 74 on Day Two for a total of 145 (+1). Second Place in the ladies’ category was captured by Ana Amalia Pina, who is federated by the Real Club Sevilla Golf. Ana’s total score was 147.

In the men’s category Álvaro Mueller, who plays for the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, took First Place with scores of 68 and 74 for a total of -2. Second Place went to Ángel Ayora, who is federated by Club de Golf La Cañada.

Last weekend’s tournament at Alborán Golf rounded out the 2018 competition season for the Andalusian golfers. More than 80 male and female competitors participated this year.

Valentina captured the championship with scores of 70, 66, and 73 for a total of 209, three shots ahead of Natalia Guseva, who took the Second Place spot on the podium. Third Place went to Andalusian federated Pía Babnik who finished the challenge with 217 shots.

The four-day event includes an opening ceremony, a practice round, and three days of fierce competition. Participants play 18 holes each day under the Stroke Play format. Valentina won this year’s challenge with scores of 77, 77, and 70, respectively, despite extremely harsh weather conditions.

The Sotogrande International Young Talents Trophy is patterned to provide players with an experience that has the feel of the European Tour. Competitors have the opportunity to score points for the R&A and United States Golf Association World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), where Valentina has been moving steadily up the list.
