The golf clubs taking part in this year’s Bandidos Interclub tournament are: Atalaya, El Paraiso, Guadalmina, Los Arqueros, and Miraflores. During the series each team will play an at home match and an away match against each of the other participating clubs.

Los Bandidos is the oldest Interclub competition on the Costa del Sol and is limited to those male golfers who have a handicap of 17.5 and greater.

After the match on Monday, lunch was served at Atalaya’s restaurant, Ventanas de Atalaya, as is the custom. According to Atalaya’s Bandidos Captain Joseph Durrmeyer, the food was excellent and the wine flowed freely. Excellent camaraderie added to the friendly ambiance, and the play-by-play conversation about some of the day’s most decisive holes was most entertaining.

Captain Durrmeyer and his deputy Peter Oliver, who have taken over the stewardship of the Atalaya team from retiring captain Salim Manji, are very encouraged about a successful 2019 season for Atalaya. “The season has only begun, but we hold out great hopes that Atalaya will continue its winning streak and emerge Costa del Sol’s Los Bandidos champion this year,” said Durrmeyer.

Atalaya members regularly have the opportunity to compete in Interclub match play tournaments against members from other area golf clubs. These competitions are available to Atalaya’s men in two categories: the Interclub group that is open to lower handicappers and the long-standing Bandidos team that is set aside for Atalaya’s men with 18 and higher handicaps. Atalaya’s ladies have three Interclub groups from which to choose: the Ladies Scratch Liga, for the Club’s lowest handicappers, the Western Liga, for lower and middle range handicappers, and the Ladies Friendly group, which is open to all of Atalaya’s lady golfers.

Most recently, the men’s Interclub group finished the 2018 competition season with two wins and a draw.

On Friday, the 16th of November, Atalaya’s men posted a win after a two-match duel against Club de Golf La Cañada. Earlier this fall Atalaya’s men were also the victors after their two-match competition against the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.

On Friday, the 16th of November, Atalaya’s men played well enough to come from behind and half this year’s two-match Interclub competition against El Paraíso Golf Club. El Paraíso had the edge after the tournament’s first leg which was played at El Paraíso on Thursday, the 8th of November. However, Atalaya’s men pulled out all the stops when playing at home and reversed the tide. Atalaya brought home enough points to half the two-match competition!

When there is a tie, the reigning team has the honour of keeping the trophy for the forthcoming year. So, Atalaya retains the trophy for at least another year and, hopefully, more.

Six Atalaya teams participated in the 18-hole Individual Stableford competition, with each team’s better score being recorded on each hole.

Top scorers for Atalaya were Nina and Richard Phillimore with 37 points and Ludwig Koller and Gisela Brardt with 31 points.

Atalaya, El Chaparral, El Paraiso, La Cala and Santa Maria are the five golf clubs participating in the 2017 five-round tournament. The golf club scoring the highest cumulative number of points after all five rounds have been played will be crowned tournament champion.

Atalaya Golf & Country Club members have the opportunity to participate in competitions with other area golf clubs throughout the year. These events are ever popular and always well attended. They are one of the many special benefits afforded to Atalaya’s members.

The Atalaya team came second and second overall in the summer series behind El Chaparral. Congrats to the team of El Chaparral!!!

Friday’s high scorers for Atalaya were Philip and Debbie Fisher with an impressive 44 points followed by great contributions from the teams of Andoni Basterrechea and Jeanette Baldermark and John Brooks and Margot Grinstead both of whom scored 41 points.

Atalaya’s team members are great ambassadors for the Club and today’s team proudly displaying the runner’s up trophy can be seen in the attached photo. Lynne and Peter Hood did all the hard work behind the scenes in organizing Atalaya’s participation in the mixed inter club matches.

Mixed teams from six Costa del Sol golf clubs played this event: Atalaya Golf, El Chaparral, El Paraíso Golf, Guadalmina, La Cala Resort and Santa María Golf.

All of them participate in the six-round, better ball event that spans the summer.

Atalaya’s mixed teams took first place honours on Friday and stand in the tournament’s all around second place position going into the final round at El Chaparral on Friday 5th August.

Phil and Debbie Fisher were Atalaya’s highest scoring team on Friday, carding 43 points.

La entrada 5th test of the Costa del Sol Mixed Interclub Competition at Atalaya se publicó primero en Atalaya Golf & Country Club.

As you can see in the picture, the team was filled with joy during the lunch that took place once the interclub matches finished. It was no wonder, the Atalaya Golf Team finished in the second place on the day and also second overall in the summer long series of mixed interclub matches.

In addition to the great results, Margot Grinstead was the winner of the nearest to the pin prize.

Eileen Audas and Joseph Durrmeyer were the leading scorers for Atalaya with 43 points and John Brooks and Margot Grinstead second with 40 points.
