A unique charity, four-day fundraising event, the David Steele Charity Golf Marathon, is coming to the Costa del Sol. On Monday, the 7th<\/sup> of June, the main fundraiser, the actual Golf Marathon, will take place during daylight hours at El Higueral Golf<\/a> in Benahavis. On the 5th<\/sup>, 6th<\/sup> and 12th<\/sup> of June, three other events are planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Golf Marathon, Monday, June 7th<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well known British professional golfer and former European Tour player David Steele<\/a> of New Castle will attempt to play 18 rounds (324 holes) on the nine-hole El Higueral course. David\u2019s goal is to raise \u20ac50,000 for Cancer Research and for the Centro Contigo<\/a> in La Linia. The center assists disadvantaged children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone can help David in his pursuit by making a pledge for each hole David plays or by simply making a donation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s Golf Marathon is David\u2019s third, and a recent Press Release states \u201c\u2026 at the age of 64 he [David] has decided it will be his last.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previous Golf Marathons<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

David conducted his first Marathon in 1993 at the age of 38. That year he raised funds to buy an ambulance for the village of Guadiaro located near San Roque in C\u00e1diz. He played 315 holes (17 and a half rounds) at San Roque Golf Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then in 2003 at the age of 48, David undertook his second Marathon. The event was covered by Sky Sports television and was held at Marbella\u2019s Dama de Noche (now Ban\u00fas Executive) golf course, which was fully equipped with night lighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David\u2019s goal at Dama de Noche was to break the world record for the most number of golf holes played in a 24-hour period using a golf cart. He played an almost unbelievable 774 holes (43 rounds) and raised over \u20ac100,000 for cancer research. Funds were donated to the Cancer Research Unit of the University of Malaga, Assn Espanola Contra El Cancer<\/a> and Fundcaci\u00f3n CUDECA<\/a> (for palliative care).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marathon Launch, Saturday and Sunday, June 5th<\/sup> and 6th<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s Marathon will be launched with a dinner and auction at San Roque Golf Club, on Saturday, the 5th<\/sup> of June. The evening will feature a question and answer session with Ryder Cup heroes Spain\u2019s Manual Pi\u00f1ero<\/a> and Northern Ireland\u2019s Eddie Polland<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, on Sunday, the 6th<\/sup> of June, another event will launch the Marathon for San Roque members and guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charity Golf Day, Saturday, June 12th<\/sup><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, on Saturday, the 12th<\/sup> of June, after the completion of David third Marathon at El Higueral, a Charity Golf Day will be held on the Old Course at San Roque Golf Club. Format for the golf tournament will be a Scramble, and the day will be capped off with a cocktail party, the presentation of prizes, an auction and a raffle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
