Atalaya Golf & Country Club is happy to announce that the Old Course is open to both members and green fee guests.

According to General Manager Andrés Sánchez Garcia, the club is open for golf only. “We just received the official information of the Junta de Andalucia in the BOJA (Boletín Oficial de la Junta de Andalucía)” … “and Atalaya Golf can keep the Old Course open,” he said. Sánchez further comments that the course is allowed to remain open because golf is “an open air sport”.

Effective today, Wednesday the 27th of January, as a result of governmental mandate, all non-essential businesses are closed in municipalities with coronavirus incidence rates of more than 1,000 cases per 100,000. The outer perimeters of these municipalities are also closed, restricting travel from one municipality to another. Coronavirus incidents in both Estepona and Marbella have exceeded the 1,000-case benchmark, and these two municipalities must close all non-essential businesses.

The exception allowing “open air sports” facilities to remain open does not include eating establishments. Consequently, both the Ventanas de Atalaya restaurant and the kiosk near the tee box on Hole One are closed. Sánchez comments that the closing of the restaurant and kiosk will probably last for two weeks – “hopefully not longer”.

In addition to the Old Course, the PG Golf & Sports Academy at Atalaya is also open, all day, daily. As the academy is located in Benahavis with Grade 1 restrictions and because it is an outdoor sports facility, the current “closure of non-essential businesses” mandate does not apply. The academy’s newly remodelled coffee bar and terrace are also open for business.

All of this is good news for members of Aloha, Las Brisas and Los Naranjos living in Benahavis. These individuals cannot travel to their home clubs in Marbella because of current outer perimeter travel restrictions. However, they can travel to and train at Atalaya’s PG Academy, giving them a chance to improve their games before returning to their home courses when restrictions are lifted.

Current outer perimeter travel restrictions also affect Atalaya members who do not live in Estepona. For these members Atalaya has arranged special green fee prices at several area golf courses:
