Women\u2019s Golf Day was celebrated internationally on Tuesday, the 4th of June, and Atalaya Golf & Country Club took advantage of the day to honour women\u2019s golf. Atalaya\u2019s Director of Operations Alfredo Calle, with the support of Atalaya\u2019s Caddy Master staff, organised the day\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n
Some 100 golfers from all areas of the Costa del Sol competed in an 18-hole individual Stableford tournament on the New Course. Competitors gathered on the tee boxes of their designated starting holes for a 09h30 shotgun start. In keeping with the theme of the day, the majority of participants were women.<\/p>\n
Atalaya\u2019s Enjoy Golf Academy<\/a> also collaborated by opening its doors to all women interested in learning golf, as well as to those desiring to support \u201cwomen through golf\u201d.<\/p>\n The golf tournament offered four categories, and First Place trophies were awarded to the winners in each of the four classifications. In Ladies\u2019 Category One, with a handicap range of 0 \u2013 22.0, Fiona Shaxon from Sotogrande took First Place, with 37 points. The winner of Category Two, with a handicap range of 22.1 and upwards, was Belinda Romero Pineda from Almenara, carding 34 points. In Men\u2019s Division One, with a handicap range of 0 \u2013 18.0, the top honour went to Atalaya member Franciso Siconolfi, who posted 33 points. In Men\u2019s Division Two, with a handicap range of 18.1 and upwards, Paul Wiget, another Atalaya member, placed first with a spectacular 35 points.<\/p>\n Atalaya\u2019s former Men\u2019s Captain Richard Phillimore was the proud recipient of \u201cNearest to the Pin\u201d honours. His prize was an impressive assortment of confectionery delights from Caf\u00e9 Les Deux<\/a>, Marbella.<\/p>\n The day proved to be thoroughly enjoyed by all and was packed with surprises. The first was a very welcome and unexpected sack lunch, compliments of La Sala Puerto Ban\u00fas<\/a> and Frutas Eladio<\/a>. The treat was delivered to all competitors as they were starting their 10th hole of play by Atalaya\u2019s friendly Marshals and Starters, members of the Caddy Mater team. Then, at the end of play, the upbeat sounds of popular Costa del Sol singer Gema Cabanas greeted all as they gathered at the Kiosk, near the Old Course\u2019s ninth green, for their 19th Hole celebrations.<\/p>\n The final surprise of the day was a fabulous tombola. A vast array of prizes, that seemed never ending, was awarded via a scorecard draw. The only requirement was for the winner of each prize to be present to accept his or her gift.<\/p>\n Sponsors of complimentary green fess were: Alferini Golf Club, Flamingos Golf Club and Tramores Golf Club, all three a part of Villa Padierna Golf Resort<\/a>; Aloha Golf Club<\/a>; Atalaya Golf & Country Club<\/a>, Old Course and New Course; Chaparral Golf Club<\/a>; Los Naranjos Golf Club<\/a>; Marbella Golf Country Club<\/a>; and Mijas Golf<\/a>. Four vouches of ten golf lessons each were donated by the Enjoy Golf Academy<\/a> at Atalaya Golf & Country Club, and Golfriend\u2019s<\/a> gave a golf bag.<\/p>\n Restaurants providing dinners for two and monetary vouchers were: All in 1 Caf\u00e9<\/a>, Centre Comercial\u00a0Monte Halcones; Asador de Aita<\/a>, San Pedro de Alc\u00e1ntara; Everest Fusi\u00f3n, Centre Commercial Diana; La Escalera\u00a0de Manolo Espada<\/a>, Benahavis, which also provided bottles of wine for the raffle; La Rosa Restaurant<\/a>, Centre Commercial Guadalmina; Restaurante Amigos<\/a>, Benahavis; Restaurante El Guarda 1926<\/a>, Benahavis; Restaurante Eugenio Las Ca\u00f1as<\/a>, Benahavis; and Restaurante Posidonia<\/a> Banus, Nueva Andalucia, which will be opening its doors within the next few days.<\/p>\n Other business giving prizes were: DelMediterraneo<\/a> Liquori Tradizionali Italiani (Limoncello and Narancello); Frutas Eladio<\/a>; Grupo Artenovum<\/a> (Contemporary Art); MARCH Cirug\u00eda y Medicina Est\u00e9tica<\/a>; NARS Cosmetics<\/a> and Kiehl\u2019s<\/a> (Facial Treatments) through their El Corte Ingl\u00e9s stores; Peluqueria Pepe Moreno<\/a>; Roche Bobois Marbella<\/a>; Scandi Supermarket<\/a>; and Yoga Classes Estepona.<\/p>\n The highlight of the raffle was a draw for the use of a bright red Audi RS3 for a weekend. Scorecards of all players were re-entered in to the lottery to ensure everyone had a chance of winning. This very generous gift was provided by Audi Safamotor<\/a>, Official Audi Dealers in M\u00e1laga, Marbella and C\u00f3rdoba. The thrilled recipient was Fiona Shaxon, who went home not only with First Place honours in her division of the golf tournament but also with this colossal prize.<\/p>\n Special appreciation is extended to the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation<\/a>, to Lynn Fisher of Marbella\u2019s G.I.R.L.S Golf Society and to Montse San Francisco, the editor of Ladies in Golf – A Magazine for women with swing<\/a>. All helped Atalaya immeasurably with the success of this event.<\/p>\n
