Each year Atalaya lady golfers look forward to the chance of being the recipient of the prestigious Ingelise Roed Trophy.

The annual tournament which honours 1994-1997 and 2000-2002 Ladies’ Captain Ingelise Roed celebrated its 15th anniversary on Wednesday, March 15.

The 18-hole Individual Stableford competition was played on the Old Course under extremely wet and windy weather conditions, with challenging tee box and pin placements.

The factor that not one tournament participant was able to drive her ball onto the green for the competition’s nearest to the pin challenge is testimony of the day’s difficult playing circumstances. Still, after 18 holes of demanding play, Atalaya ladies rose to the occasion and brought very respectable scores into the clubhouse.

A cava reception and delicious luncheon followed play. Then, this year’s event sponsors, Eileen Audas and her husband Keith, presented prizes to the tournament’s first, second and third place winners in two categories determined by handicap.

Finally, the moment came to award the distinguished silver pitcher that serves as the revolving Ingelise Roed Trophy to this year’s tournament champion Jeannette Mitchell. Not only surprised but a bit overwhelmed, Jeannette accepted the honour with grace and tears in her eyes.
