RFGA SEMINAR-SUSTAINABLE GOLF AND “SILVER ECONOMY” TOURISM

Atalaya Golf attended this event hosted by the Andalucian Golf Federation to highlight the importance of golf to the tourist industry, particularly with regards to the impact of the Silver Economy (people aged 50 years plus).

Of the 50,000 federated golfers in the region, 30,000 are in the Silver Economy bracket, contributing enormously to the economy. In Spain this sector is worth €74,000 mill to the tourist industry in the country, and growing every year, with an estimated worldwide increase of 32% in this age range by 2040.

Mention was also made of the importance of golf to the country as a whole, with Spain now the second most popular golfing destination in the world, with over 1,2 mill tourists visiting last year.

GOLF TOURNAMENT -CESARE SCARIOLO FOUNDATION

Thanks to this Solidarity Golf Tournament at Atalaya Golf on 18 May, the FCS will be able to allocate the money raised to two projects. The first of these will be the purchase of a fridge for the paediatric haematology onco consultations. Its main purpose will be to store the medication given to families for home administration to children. This will allow oncologists and haematologists to have quick access to medicines, reducing the waiting time for both sick children and their families during consultations, which are often lengthy due to tests and check-ups.

Secondly, we would like to highlight and acknowledge, with a special nod to the staff on the fourth paediatric oncology floor, who care for the children and families we work with on a daily basis at FCS. To make their long and difficult working days a little more bearable, we will provide them with a television. This will give them a brief respite and allow them to enjoy a little bit of peace and quiet. Even if it’s only for a few moments.

PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP

Frank Stockmans and Manuela Esculapio were this year’s Pairs Championship winners at Atalaya Golf. Played over two days on the Old Course, 20 teams took part, with Frank and Manuela recording a total of 159 strokes to take the title, seven ahead of runners-up Elwira Zaleska and Paul Gyllstrom.

In the net divisions, Camilla Frykman and Basse Bergendorff triumphed in the first category with a total of 137, and Anitta and Tomas Bohlin prevailed in the second category. Congratulations to all the winners!

Golf Influencer Kieran Hall visits Atalaya Golf

Atalaya Golf Director Andres Sanchez was on hand to welcome the popular golf influencer Kieran Hall to the club.With over 16,000 followers, Kieran(golfhipster) has built a community of golfers that are interested in making golf more accessible to a younger generation. He enjoyed his first visit to the Costa del Sol and made time to play both the Old and the New Courses, as well as a quick tour of the PG Academy. We look forward to seeing him here again in the near future.

Kieran started his golf page in lockdown and his following has grown rapidly with like-minded golfers who are interested in a new style which has got him noticed in the golfing sector. He is working with the Golf Foundation in the UK to make golf more accessible in schools and in the local community.

Our Warmest Welcome to Álvaro, the New Member of our Maintenance Team

Atalaya Golf is always striving to improve the condition of its golf courses, and this is particularly important in the high season. To that end we have recently added Álvaro to our maintenance team, with the dedicated task of repairing pitch marks on the greens, ensuring that bunkers are properly raked, and sanding divots on the fairways and tees.

Atalaya Golf celebrated its own golf version of this traditional athletics competition between Finland and Sweden. A total of 38 players took part, many sporting their country’s colours, with Sweden coming out on top.

ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY CERTIFICATE PRESENTATION TO ATALAYA GOLF

Atalaya Golf Director Andres Sanchez welcomed dignitaries from the area for the official presentation of the Certificate of Quality, in recognition of the commitment by the club to care for the environment, the first golf course to receive the award.

The president of the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, Manuel Cardeña was accompanied by the Mayor of Estepona, José Maria Garcia Urbano, and his counterpart at Manilva, José Manuel Fernandez.

PRESIDENT’S CUP

The sun shone and a full house of nearly 120 players attended this year’s event, with outgoing President Richard Phillimore welcoming the golfers for one of the most prestigious competitions on the social calendar at Atalaya Golf.

Players enjoyed a “Beat the Pro” challenge on the 7^th hole with Robin Stadheim from the PG Academy and a barbeque on the 9^th hole made sure that they didn’t go hungry.

The golf was followed by an evening dinner dance attended by 124 members and guests, with live entertainment and a table magician accompanying a fabulous three course meal.Many thanks to the main sponsors on the day, namely La Sala Banus, Golfriend’s and PG Golf Academy for their generosity with some fantastic prizes, and congratulations to Doris Muller who took home the trophy with a fine score of 39 stableford points.

Irishman Stuart Grehan Blitzes the Field in Toro Tour Event at Atalaya Golf

With an unbelievable three-round total of 26 under par (63/62/62) Stuart took the honours on the Atalaya New Course, with a winning margin of twelve strokes over second placed Harvey Byers. Mikie Grealy was another winner in the competition, recording a hole in one on the lucky 13^th in his second round. Congratulations!
