On June 1st 1999, Andrés Sánchez Garcia took over the management of Atalaya Golf from Birget Bettag. Andres took the opportunity to remember this special day and invited the greens committee to a glass of champagne to celebrate the event.

I notice that between tournaments I am returning to Atalaya more and more often, instead of going home to Norway. Both courses have perfect conditions, beautiful surroundings, very kind members and is my now my second home of choice.
It was good to be back here and I’m coming straight from the LETAS tournament in Switzerland, where I ended up in fourth place. I’m happy with the result, but it’s still early in the season and my ambitions are high with the main goal to secure my European Tour card for next year.
This time I was here with my new caddy and boyfriend Robin. In the past, my dad has always been with me, but now I have partially retired him! He has travelled with me since I was 10 years old and it’s time for him to get some time off.
I am very happy and proud to represent Atalaya and will be in touch again soon.
Once again a great turnout for the visit of this popular golf society based in San Pedro,with the Old Course looking in great condition after the recent rains.
Almost 50 players took part in the individual stableford competition and they were very complimentary about the lush fairways and good fast, but not too slick greens.
There was some great golf played, with Susan Mulligan and Peter Thomlinson both scoring 43 points.

The KLM Open was held at the Bernardus golf course in the Netherlands, and Atalaya Golf Director Andres Sanchez was there to witness a Spanish one two as Pablo Larrazabal and Adrian Otaegui took the top spots. A bumper Sunday crowd was in attendance despite the entry fee of €50 and were rewarded with some fabulous golf.
The Andalusian Golf stand was well visited over the four days, with guests treated to sample a traditional Malaga wine. The growing Dutch golf market had a good knowledge of the golfing offers on the Costa del Sol, and Andres was very pleased with the interest shown in the area and our club.
